DIY galaxy easter egg

I love the tradition of decorating eggs on Easter. It’s one those projects I look forward to doing every year. Mainly because eggs are a unique medium to paint on and a wonderful change from the usual medium of paper. For this year’s Easter DIY, I decided to bring the universe upon an egg. Confused? Read on to see how you can create your own DIY galaxy easter egg.

Wow, can you believe that it’s March already? Where did the last few months even go or rather vanish?Having said that, every week I look forward to bringing you new tutorials and DIYs.So even if the time flies, it’s okay because I love creating and showing you how to create. In today’s DIY segment, I’m going to show you how to create a DIY galaxy easter egg. With Easter being just around the corner, this sure will be a fun activity you can do with your kids or yourself. The year before, I made a similar DIY easter egg  by doing a landscape painting on easter egg.(Please excuse my photography skills on last year’s post.)

Step 1:Organize your materials. For the DIY galaxy easter egg you will need.1.Palette 2.Watercolor brush 3.Watercolors 4.White acrylic ink  5.Water 6.Egg. White acrylic ink can be substituted with white gouache or regular acrylic paint. These only need to be thinned down with water. The advantage of using acrylic ink is that its runny consistency makes it easy to use directly from the bottle.

Step 1: Take an egg. Empty the contents of the egg by using the blowing method. I followed the tutorial but instead of the awl, I used the end of a sharp knife. For scrambling the yolk,I used a long wooden toothpick. Once the egg is washed and dried, place it on top of a support. I used a washi tape to act as the support system for the DIY galaxy easter egg.

Step 2:Start painting! The basic colors of the DIY galaxy easter egg I used are purple, crimson, black and blue. By following the wet-in-wet watercolor technique, you will slowly start seeing a galaxy form on your egg.You don’t have to be precise. Just let the colors do the work of mixing and blending with each other. Put down pops of color here and there to give it a vibrant look. Your fingers might get messy in the process but that’s okay because the end result is going to be stunning. After painting the egg, allow it to dry. I inserted a long toothpick inside the hole of the egg and kept it in the jar of water for drying.

Step 3.Let’s create some stars on our DIY galaxy easter egg! Drop in some white acrylic ink onto your palette. Take a watercolor brush. Dip it inside the white ink coating it well. Using the index finger, slowly start spraying ink on the egg by using the forward and backward motion. Splatters of white will start to appear on the egg making it look like clusters of stars.Once you’re satisfied with the amount of ink sprayed, add in some more dots using a detail brush.
