I love creating wedding invitation suites that have a story and meaning behind. Being trusted this task by the lovely couple Vanessa and Marcela, I had to make sure I was delivering exactly what they need. Here is a glimpses of the alpine wedding invitation suite I was asked to design.

I’m all about creating invitation suited that have a particular theme. As a designer, it makes things so much simpler. And when you’re client knows what exactly they want, even better. I was asked to create four components in this suite. The Save the Date card, the main invite, the RSVP card and a thank-you card.Holding all of this together was a belly band that composed of illustrations the couple loves.

I’m going to show you an overview of how I went about designing the invite if you’re looking to DIY your wedding.

1. The Save the Date card

The client wanted their Save the date cards to showcase two birds from their respective native places. Vanessa is from California and Marcela from Venezuela. They wanted  a Blue Jay to represent Vanessa and a Macau to represent Marcela.

I generally do rough sketches so that the client has the option of changing things. You’ll see the  evolution of the card in the images below. You’ll see that in the finished alpine wedding invitation, the color of the Macau and that the Blue Jay has a mohawk.

2. The main invite

This element of the alpine wedding invitation took the longest. Of course, it is the main element and I wanted to make sure everything was perfect. We toyed with a couple of ideas and finally decided on having the venue of the wedding as the main illustration below with a beautiful cabin and alpine trees. To tie the entire suite together, I incorporated the illustration of the Save the Date card on top.

3.The RSVP card and belly band

Since the couple love hiking, they wanted to include a specific hiking boot with lovely California wildflowers.  I absolutely loved how well thought every element in the alpine wedding invitation suite was.

The bellyband displayed  a mix of illustrations that were painted according to the couples’ interests. I also added a little wreath in the middle using the wildflowers with their initials.

We decided on some pretty Royal Blue envelopes from LCIpaper .

4. Thank-you card

If you’ve been around here long enough, you may remember a calendar collaboration Inkstruck Studio did with The Postman’s knock quite a while ago. Vanessa and Marcela loved the cute owl that was one of the illustrations. I added some wildflowers to make it cohesive with the existing design.

The experience and joy in being part of someone’s wedding journey is quite amazing.Especially when it’s an absolutely crucial part that is seen by everyone before the wedding. I’m so happy to have been entrusted the job.
