The recent rise in trend with styled stock photography and scene generators have been a huge advantage to designers, bloggers and artists alike. Not really sure about what I’m talking about? Hop on to the Inkstruck Studio trend train to know all about it !
Not all of us are professional photographers and quite often lack the time to learn a new skill. Of course learning is great, but monetarily and time wise ,things may not be that feasible. I’m sure you would rather spend your time creating the art that you love instead of losing precious time taking photos of the work you’ve made. Of course, if you’re interested in taking photographs, that’s totally awesome. But for others I have the perfect solution for you.
What is styled stock photography?
Styled stock photography are pre-made photographs pertaining to a particular a theme or color scheme on which you can drag and drop your artwork, greeting cards or any sort of paper goods material that you would like displayed. They are generally beautiful set ups that include flowers, stationary items or even fruits that are arranged in a gorgeous way that is pleasing to the eye.
How does it work?
The photos in styled stock photography generally includes a blank space where you can place your artwork, paper goods etc. Â Some stock images may have frames which are blank and you can showcase your artwork by placing it in the correct position. Some are desktop images where you can showcase a recent website you’ve created or a pre made design. They can also be used for your website headers or to showcase the different elements that your website has by overlaying with text.
Shay Cochrane is a pro at creating beautiful styled stock photography . I love the beautiful and crisp photos she comes up with for helping other businesses. Her work is extraordinary but it is a little pricey. If you’re ready to invest a bit into your business, her work won’t disappoint. You can also get access to one free styled photo every month if you signup for her newsletter. How cool is that? Below is an example of her work.

What are scene generators ?
While styled photography can make your business pretty, they can be used for one or more products that you need to showcase. You’ll pretty much need to get a couple more of them so that you don’t overuse just one. Scene generators on the other hand are handy little stuff where you can move around individual items inside the area in which you want to showcase your product. This way you will have a different image each time you want to display a new work. Obviously it takes more effort than using styled stock photography and you will need to know a bit of photoshop or illustrator but they are well worth it. I’ve used scene generators to create the main images of a few of my blog posts that you can see here and here.
My top picks for scene generators are
Roman Jusdado
Mockup Zone
LStore
What do you think ?
Now aren’t these a handy way to show off your work to the world? I think they are such brilliant time savers and definitely provide more bang for the buck. What would be your preferred choice . Scene generators or styled stock photography ? Let me know all about it in the comments below.
Thanks for being here. You totally rock my world with your endless support. Much love !
I love Kate Maxwell’s work and I’m using some of her photos for my stationery items. I didn’t know about some of your other suggestions, so I’m excited to check them out! Thank you!
I love Kate’s work too. They’re super trendy and highly affordable too. I’ve seen it in your website and I think it fits perfectly. I was surprised when I researched on this that there were so many other brilliant photo styling experts as well. Thanks for stopping by lovely . x
Didn’t realise this existed, but it makes total sense 🙂 Thank you for this post, pinning it and bookmarking the sites for future reference!
Brilliant ! I’m so glad that you found this post handy. I think a lot of people are unaware of the use of styled stock photography . Happy that I could bring out a post that will be useful to a lot of people. Thanks for stopping by ! x
Funny I’m using one of Kate Maxwell’s photos too. I love styled photography, it’s such a clean trend. I didn’t know about some of the other artists or kits. I have one of Roman’s kits, but not the one you showed and it’s gorgeous! Might have to get that one soon. 🙂
I think Kate’s is hugely popular and affordable too. I’ve seen that you used some of her photos. The kits are such a clever idea too because I think we can style accordingly. Of course knowing photoshop helps but definitely helpful for designers . So glad you were able to come across some other creatives in the field. Thanks for the support and for stopping by. x
Definitely styled photos for me! I did purchase a scene generator but all it did was remind me styling is not a creative strength of mine. Doh! Thank goodness for Shay Cochrane and her ilk though Design Love Shop is my favourite and speaks most strongly to my brand.
I do agree that sometimes scene generators may not be the thing for everyone.Especially for someone who is not adept with using photoshop.Plus it takes quite a bit of time as well to get the exact image you have in mind. That being said,I love scene generators because it’s versatile and you can get a good bang for the buck.Styled photography is awesome as well.I tend to shuttle between the two.I did have a peek at your website and YES!Design love shop seems perfect for your brand/blog.They tend to stick with a pretty basic scheme with a tad bit of color. Thanks for stopping by! x
Hello! I also love to take pictures, maybe you like my work, in my site http://www.kristinaco.com
